Final Day in Brown County

I woke up this morning feeling a little sore, but not quite workout sore.  I’m thinking that it is the change in weather here in Indiana.  For the past couple of weeks it has been rather warm for the fall season, but the past couple of days have gotten suddenly cold and I am hoping that my body is just having a difficult time adjusting.


Despite the soreness in my body, I created a quick workout that can be repeated 2-3 times for a great at-home full body session that requires zero equipment.


Zero Equipment Total Body Workout

I tried to get clever with the name like (30, 40, 50, 10, 20, 30 Workout…but then I realized that just got confusing…)

Repeat this workout 2-3 times, or tag it on after a quick run!

  • 30 Jumping Jacks
  • 30 Regular Crunches
  • 40 Jumping Jacks
  • 20 Lunges (on each side)
  • 50 Jumping Jacks
  • 10 Push ups
  • 40 Jumping Jacks
  • 20 Side dips (10 on each side)
  • 30 Jumping Jacks
  • 30 Tricep Dips

Using the apples from yesterday was a perfect idea because they were sweet and the perfect crispness!  Apples from the orchard always taste better than from the store.
We then headed out to walk around the historic little shops of Nashville.  The town used to be an artists colony back in the 1800s and all of the old houses have now been turned into little gift and specialty shops as well as restaurants, inns, and art galleries.
The town has such a quaint and cozy feel to it, which makes it the perfect fall destination.
Brian and I headed in to a little toy shop just to see what they had to offer when I found something that I had been considering purchasing for quite a while…
A head massager!  This contraption looks a little goofy, but after gently rubbing this little baby on your head one or two times you will understand the pure happiness that it brings!  It literally gives me chills every time I use it 🙂
We then stopped into a little antique shop.  There was jewelry dating back to the 1800s, old cameras, and just about everything you could imagine that had a story behind it.  The woman who owned the store seemed to know a little piece of history about each and every item and shared that knowledge with us.
After listening to her stories, Brian and I found a brooch that was so pretty and something that I could wear today.  Brian bought it for me as a little going away present.  I came home, cleaned and shined it up and now I can’t wait to incorporate it into an outfit!
It basically rained all day, which was OK in my book because it gave us an excuse to duck into a cute little coffee shop for a warm drink.
I ordered a hot apple cider and Brian ordered a hot chocolate.  Perfectly warm and delicious!
We then continued to walk around and wandered into a little shop that sold Tom’s Shoes.  When the shoes initially hit the market a few years ago I did not think that they were cute at all.  Even though they were for a good cause, I just didn’t see myself wearing the shoes.
After talking to several people who own and wear them on a regular a basis I decided that it would be a practical purchase before my trip (well…job and move) to London and the cruise.  They look good with shorts and skinny jeans and are comfortable for walking around….so I bought some!
Brian and I then came home, unpacked, did some laundry and then whipped up a quick dinner!
Tilapia and steamed zucchini.
Baked Tilapia
  • 2 pieces of tilapia, thawed
  • garlic salt to taste
  • basil to taste
  • Italian seasoning to taste
  • pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.  Place the fish in a greased glass pan.  Season to taste.  Place in the oven and bake for 12 minutes or until the fish flakes with a fork.
Steamed Zucchini
Slice up the squash into medallions, then slice the onion.  Place in a large bowl, season with salt and garlic pepper.  Place 1/4 cup or a little less into the bottom of the dish.  Microwave on high and covered for 7 minutes.  After the 7 minutes, drain the excess water and mix in the wedge of laughing cow cheese.
Both of these recipes make 2 servings.  Enjoy!
Tomorrow is the ultimate packing day…I am packing up everything in Brian’s apartment and officially packing for the cruise…wish me luck!!

Apples, Hiking, Wine, and Eggplant

Today was the first full day of Brian and I’s get-away weekend in Brown County Indiana.


I started the day with a quick mile-and-a-half run followed by this at home, no equipment needed workout:

  • Squats
  • Burpees
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Wall Sit
  • Plank
  • Crunches
I did each workout move for 30 seconds then 45 seconds then 60 seconds.  After I finished the 6 moves, I did 10 pushups to get a bit of an arm workout in.  The entire workout, including the run took a little under 30 minutes for me to complete and allowed me to workup a nice sweat!
After my quick workout, showering, and getting ready for the day I had a delicious breakfast of peanut butter and jelly buckwheat and a mimosa!  The people who own the lake house that we are staying at gave us a bottle of champagne.  We drank some of it last night, but we couldn’t finish the bottle so Brian though mimosas would be the perfect way to finish it off!


Day in Brown County

After breakfast we headed to the Apple Works which was a you-pick pumpkin patch, bamboo maze, tons of baked apple goodies, and apples that you can buy (not pick sadly).


There were a ton of people and children there for a Monday.

Brian saw this guy and he just had to feed him a little snack.

I know that you can’t really see in the picture, but Brian’s hand was literally covered in slobber…too much for my taste!


We walked around the orchard and found a sunflower field, but sadly all of the flowers were dead.  It was amazing to see how large the actual flowers were!  I can only imagine how pretty the field would be when the sunflowers are in bloom.

There were several choices as to which apples we could pick.  Luckily, they allowed us to taste several varieties before deciding on the delicious Fugi apple.  Sweet and crisp, so tasty!

We then headed to Brown County State Park for a picnic lunch of veggies, tuna, crackers, nuts, cheese, and an apple from the Apple Works.  We also shared a bottle of wine 😉  It was the perfect little lunch in such a beautiful area!

We then hiked nearly 2 miles around the lake and to the nature center.

Once we got to the nature center we found an outlook that was the perfect spot for a photo opp!


Brian gave the first attempt at setting up the self timer, and the picture didn’t exactly turn out ideal 😦

I set up the camera for a second try and it turned out great!


I had to get creative with what I set the camera on in order to get just the right angle including Brian and I along with the beautiful background.

We then headed to Nashville, IN to hit up Chateau Thomas Winery and Brown County Winery.  We ended up taking a bottle home from each!


When we got home, we tried out the plum wine from Brown County Winery with dinner.

Tonight’s dinner was eggplant parmesan with blanched broccoli, a special request of Brian.

Now, we are just veggin’ in front of the TV watching The Sing Off and resting up for our day tomorrow 🙂


Super Fun Weekend

I can’t believe it is here….the last weekend before I leave for London and my job on the cruise line.


Brian and I have really fun plans for every day this weekend, and I have been looking forward to it for a while.  Here is a recap of what we will be doing!



  • Lunch with Brenna, Kenny (he is home from Florida for the weekend!), Dad, and Brian at Panera.  I have been craving Panera, and so has Brian so we are super excited about eating there….now I just have to decide on what to order!

Love my siblings!

  • Getting the apartment ready for Chelsea, Ashley, and Dina (Fort Wayne friends) to come over tomorrow night
  • Shopping to use up the last of the discount at my retail job.

  • Dinner at Naked Tchopstix! This is probably Brian and I’s favorite sushi restaurant….we are looking forward to it.
  • Heading to a friend, Kelsey’s house, for her birthday!
  • 9-5:30 last day of work 😦
  • 7pmish Chelsea, Ashley, and Dina come into town!!
  • 7:30pm-??? Going away party with all of my favorite friends!
  • I’m hoping for a morning after breakfast at Patachou.  This place is seriously my favorite.  Brian and I went there after our engagement night with my family for breakfast, and they loved it too!
  • Heading to Brown County Indiana for fall festivities such as….Apple orchard visit, wine tasting, going around cute little shops.
This weekend should be great!
I started today with a coffee smoothie so that I have energy for the day and for this weekend!
Literally the sun just came up, so I am now off to change into my running shoes for a little 3 mile jog this morning.

Top Things About Fall

This morning, I woke up early with Brian to help him review for his exam.  This will be the last monthly exam of his that I am here for!

Breakfast was a delicious fall apple with peanut butter and coffee 🙂

After Brian was off to his exam, I went on a 4 mile run and then completed a workout that was Pinterest inspired!

Because I ran 4 miles, I skipped the 100 jumping jacks and the 10 minutes of running at the end, but I did everything in between.  The leg lifts were hardest for me!


It seems like I have been talking a lot about the seasons, but I love season changes and I just can’t help it 😉

The crisp fall mornings lately have reminded me of all of my favorite things about fall.

Fall Favorites:

Boots.  If I had my way, I would have boots in every color, height, ankle boots, you name it.  I love books 🙂

What’s Up This Weekend?!

It’s Friday!


I just love the start of the weekend, even if I don’t have anything special going on.  Everyone just seems a little happier, a little less stressed, and a little more relaxed about things.


I started off my Friday morning with a super duper sweaty workout, literally super sweaty.  I did the Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs workout.  Seriously, I was sweatin’.  I quickly cooled off when I took Bella on a walk this morning.  This weather is totally tripping me up.  I can literally see my breath in the morning, but by lunchtime I can wear shorts outside!



I really wanted something that was going to last for breakfast today because I have to work a long shift at work.  Another bowl of buckwheat.

I  mixed a really old and mushy banana into the oats before cooking them, so when they were done cooking they were super creamy and banana flavored!  I also mixed in vanilla extract and a tablespoon of peanut butter.  Mmmmm so delish!  I also had a side of chocolate glazed donut flavored coffee!! Bella’s family has a Keurig (I really enjoyed it last time too!) and they have all sorts of fun coffee flavors 🙂

Not Expecting Autumn

After seeing the beautiful weather outside the past couple of days, I just had to lace up the running shoes and get out there!  The highs in the afternoon have been in the 80s, but in the morning the weather has been in the 40s and 50s.  So cold that I can see my breath.  This brings up the dilemma of what to wear when working out outside.

Today, I opted for running shorts and a sweatshirt, but it still wasn’t the right combo.  My legs were freezing the first portion of the run, and then I felt like I was burning up after the first 10 minutes.  There just isn’t  a way to balance it, I guess.


Because my knee has been hurting lately I was a little nervous about running, and I actually forgot to wear the knee brace that I purchased to help give me a little extra support.  I set out and told myself that my goal was to run for 30 minutes, and as soon as I felt any sort of discomfort in my knee that I would stop and walk….and guess what!  I never felt any discomfort and was able to complete the entire 30 minutes pain free, thank goodness!


After the run, I walked Bella around the block, then came inside and did Jeanette Jenkin’s 10 minute Booty Bootcamp video again, then did the following:

  • 50 center crunches
  • 10 push-ups
  • 50 crunches on each side
  • 15 bicycle crunches
  • 10 push-ups
Because it is sooo dark until practically 7:45am here in Indiana I definitely ate breakfast before my workout (I woke up around 6am). Since Brian and I are dog-sitting, it was easier to transport buckwheat than it was to transfer all of my frozen fruit and blender so I had buckwheat for breakfast!
The buckwheat was mixed with cinnamon and half of a banana.  It kind of tasted like banana bread!


Not Expecting Autumn

Ok, so it is clearly autumn.  The weather is cooler, the leaves are changing color and falling, pumpkins and cornstalks are adorning each house.  I have purchased and cooked up pumpkin and butternut squash, apples, and started cooking warm soups.


But to me it just doesn’t feel like autumn.  Maybe it’s because this fall is totally different from any other fall has been for me.  Usually I am getting out all of the fall decorations, planning my halloween costume, making trips to haunted houses and apple orchards.  This year is different.  Because I leave in a couple of weeks, I did not get out any fall decor, there is no reason for me to plan a halloween outfit, and I have yet to purchase a pumpkin to decorate and carve.  I have realized that because I am leaving, I mentally planned to not be here for any holidays, and therefore did not anticipate being here for the season change.  But I am here!!  Brian has his big exam on Monday, but after that I am going to plan plenty of fall activities for us to do so I can get out of “season limbo.”

I Did It!

It all fit surprisingly!  And I guess I was being a little dramatic when I said one bag.  I am checking one bag and taking a carry that is actually pretty good sized.  When Brian and I went to New York City last winter for just under a week I took the same carry on, but I used that as my only luggage…so it can fit a lot 🙂

The middle bag has the majority of everything in it, the one on the right is my carry on, and the little bag on the left is what I will bring in my personal bag.  I just have to decide which bag I want as my personal bag!


Now, I am just worried about the weight…the bags feel a little heavy so I will have to figure out a way to check that. I know that I packed way more clothes then needed so I think I will take some out and plan my outfits a little differently.




After I got done packing, I put on real clothes (I was still in my workout stuff) so that I could make an early dinner then head over to hang out with Bella!

A couple of months ago, Brian and I dog sat her her and we are doing it again!  She is such a cutie, Brian and I are looking forward to having a little furry one back in our lives for a little bit 🙂


I then made dinner.  Tonight’s meal was Autumn Mac and Cheese from How Sweet Eats (yet again!  I love her recipes!)  I made this recipe once last year around this time and ABSOLUTELY loved the perfect autumn taste it brought to the table.


What makes this mac and cheese so special are all of the little add ins, like brussel sprouts and onions…

Butternut squash and apples…

All mixed in with a smoky cheddar cheese sauce and topped with bread crumbs…tastes just like fall 🙂

Brian has another one of his volleyball games tonight, but in the mean time I am going to play with my iTouch (it’s really making me want an iPhone) and download some new apps!!

So, I got called into work tonight and therefore ate a super  duper early dinner.

I was craving a huge bowl of fresh veggies, so a salad it was.  I topped a bed of spinach with carrots, yellow bell pepper, onion, jalapenos, celery, Krab (the artificial stuff), and salsa.   It was perfectly delicious and totally hit the spot!

For lunch I had one of my favorites.  It is seriously like the simplest thing EVER, but I still love it and have been eating it for lunch for years 🙂  Celery, carrots, and peanut butter.  I usually have some sort of cracker with it, but today I just wasn’t that hungry at lunch time.

Is There An App For That??

Yesterday, I was so happy that my sister was able to come over and join Brian and I for our tasty dinner of French Onion Soup.

After dinner we relaxed while she did her laundry by watching The Sing Off (which is amazing!), looking at Pinterest, loading apps onto my iTouch, and then watching the Food Network.  Perfect sister time!

So, because I am going to be living in London for roughly a month while training to be a cruiseline fitness instructor and then on a boat, I am not going to actually have a phone for the next year.  Instead I will be using Brenna’s old iTouch.  We tried downloading a couple of apps last night but because I don’t have an iPhone I have no idea of what apps I really want or even need!

Any suggestion of what apps I should download???!



I woke up this morning wanting to hit the snooze button and sleep for another hour.  After laying there for a couple of minutes and debating on whether to go back to sleep or jump out of bed, I realized how much easier it is for me to workout first thing when I wake up.  It truly energizes my day, makes me happy, and allows me to spend the day focused on other things and not when I will squeeze a workout in.


I gave the new video by Jeanette Jenkins that I posted about yesterday a try and absolutely loved it!


The video is 10 minutes long and incorporates all muscle groups in simple moves that are great for beginners and more advanced people.  I repeated the video 3 times for a 30 minute workout and then followed it up with 8 minute abs (again).


For breakfast I had a delicious smoothie bowl made with blackberries, bananas, spinach, and peanut butter.   The weather is actually warming up here after being in the 50s over the weekend, so I thought that something cool and smooth would be perfect!

I also had a side of Crystal Light Energy.  I love this stuff because it tastes good, has only 5 calories a serving, and really has a caffeine kick!

Fat Tax

So, I was watching the Today Show this morning, and they mentioned that the government is considering placing a “fat tax” on certain foods that are over a certain percentage of fat.

Do you think that this is a good idea to stop the obesity epidemic, or do you think that it just sounds crazy!??!

I’m not one that LOVES to buy a ton of junk food, but I still think that it sounds a little silly.
