How I Spent My Birthday

Posted on

Yesterday started out just fine…until I went to dog-sit and couldn’t remember the alarm code to their house!

Before I entered their house, I searched through my planner looking for the number and couldn’t find it, but I thought that I would just let my instincts guide me. ¬†Well, my instincts were wrong and next thing I knew the alarm was going off, and the police were there.

Everything worked out fine, and at least now I know that their alarm system works ūüėČ ¬†Needless to say, it was an interesting way to start my birthday morning.

I then spent the rest of the day studying for Body Pump, and playing with these guys.

Unfortunately, another series of events occurred as I slightly cut my finger while cutting up veggies for lunch. ¬†It wasn’t too bad, but I still thought that having a bandaid would be a good idea since I will be using my hands a lot in Body Pump training, and Brian and I didn’t have any bandaids at the apartment.

When I got to the drugstore, I was overwhelmed by the selection of bandaids…who knew that there were so many options!?

I opted for the cheapest and cutest…Disney princesses of course! ¬†And some gum as a little birthday present to myself.

I then came home and got ready for my night out with Brian.  We were headed to dinner at a little restaurant called 3 Sisters that features mostly vegan and vegetarian dishes and has a great homey feel to it. The restaurant was even on the Food Network!

Until we walked up and realized that they were closed!  We still have no idea, but we had to come up with an alternate plan.

I picked another restaurant, and while we were driving there I called to see if they had any availability for the evening…and they didn’t. ¬†So, options number three it was! (third time is the charm). ¬†1001 Food and Drink.

This restaurant is fairly new, and I had actually been wanting to try it for a while, so it was perfect that we ended up there.  The restaurant has a very sleek feel to it, and has an amazing deck for sitting outside, however, it was pretty chilly yesterday so we opted for the indoor seating.

We started our meal with the appetizer recommended to us by our waiter.  Jalapeno cornbread with baked brie and cranberry on the side.  It was the perfect blend of sweet and savory.  Yum!

Since I was a bit chilly, I ordered the cup of Tomato Bisque which, to me, tasted like yummy pasta sauce.  It was a thick soup, and very tasty.

I also ordered their house salad which had tomato, lettuce, cucumber, cheese, and almonds.

Brian ordered a burger with blue cheese, but I think that his side dish was the highlight of everyone’s meal….sweet potato fries. ¬†Brian and I both love sweet potatoes, but these fries had a slightly sweet cinnamon topping on them. ¬†Thankfully, Brian shared a few with me ūüėČ ¬†They were pretty addicting.

We then headed out for dessert at a self-serve fro yo place…Huddles. ¬†Now, I love fro yo and I think that the self-serve is fun…but it’s almost too overwhelming for me.

I always ending up wanting to try one little bite of everything and then end up with a bowl of random flavors that don’t meld well together (chocolate, original tart, cake batter, and cookies and cream??) ¬†Oh well…I will figure it out one of these days! ¬†For now, I just have to try to keep the flavors as separate as possible.

We then headed out to Butler University to watch their women’s a cappella group perform. ¬†When I was at Butler, I was in this group and absolutely LOVED it! ¬†It was great to actually sit in the audience for once and hear things from the other side. ¬†They were amazing!

Although I loved all of their songs, I think that my favorite song was Marry the Night (originally by Lady Gaga). ¬†I just love that song, and with all of their harmonies and the layering…it was powerful ūüôā

The girls even pulled me on stage and sang me happy birthday!!  What a treat.

All in all it was an amazing birthday and I couldn’t have asked for more! ¬†Thank you for all of the birthday wishes, may this 23rd year of life be a great one!

A Whole Lot of Nothing

Tonight, I feel like I have done a whole lot….of nothing. ¬†After lunch, I took the puppies on a walk. ¬†It is hard to get them to pose for a picture because I feel like they are ALWAYS moving, at least when I try to take pictures of them.

Attempt 1:

Attempt 2:

Finally a decent one ūüôā They were playing with each other.

I then went to the apartment to meet Brian for dinner. ¬†I quickly steamed some asparagus…and I must say it was perfectly steamed. Slightly crunchy and full of flavor! ¬†The asparagus was served along side a Morningstar Farms Black Bean Burger. ¬†Simple, quick, and tasty.

I then backed up my computer on my external hard drive because my power adapter has been giving me troubles.  My computer is about 5 years old, so I guess some problems are expected at this point.

The cord is beginning to come apart, so I taped it together until my new one comes in the mail…which should be soon.

While my computer was backing up, I decided to take advantage of the weather and go on a little 40 minute jog. ¬†The weather is seriously perfect! ¬†The only downfall…it is a little windy, which makes it hard when you are running against it, but it was still a great run. ¬†There were so many people out and about, and that is what I love to see.

I then packed up my computer and headed back to the puppies, I played around with them for a bit, and the next thing I knew it was just about 9pm! ¬†Where did the day go? ¬†I feel like I didn’t stop the whole day…yet the to-do list is not done. ¬†That’s what tomorrow is for, I guess!

This is so random, but about a year ago, I participated in a survey for people with contacts. ¬†Well, they sent me a follow-up survey today and for completing it, I got a $25 gift card!! How awesome is that? ¬†I love free stuff ūüėČ

Alright my friends!  Off to relax for the evening.

Puppies Galore!

Last night, Gucci, the little dog that Brian and I are dog sitting was giving Brian some lovin’ on the couch. ¬†Brian had a rough day and Gucci knew just what would make him feel better.

I have said it in the past and I will say it again, Brian and I would LOVE (especially Brian) to get a dog, but with Brian still being in school and our schedules being totally wacko, now is just not the time…but someday!

Today, I had a bowl of hot oats because it is C O L D outside! ¬†Literally, it froze last night. ¬†I simply don’t understand how one day we are wishing that the pools were open and then the next day we are bundled up in jackets and sweaters. ¬†I guess that is Indiana weather for ya!

My oats contained Sunwarrior, vanilla extract, strawberries, and 2 tsp of peanut butter. ¬†They definitely hit the spot ūüėČ

Special Meeting

I have always known that I want to go on to further education, but for what…well that is where the problem arises. ¬†One idea that has come into my mind in the past and recently is to become an R.D. or registered dietician, so today I am meeting with one! ¬†I am very excited to pick her brain and see how her answers will aid in my decision making process. ¬†It should definitely be helpful.

More Puppies

Today, I also begin dog-sitting for the family that I nannied for last summer.  That means that Brian will be dog-sitting Gucci, while I dog sit Oliver and Sophie!  So many puppies!  It should be fun though.

Daily Workout

I then plan on attending a group fitness class at Butler this evening, so no morning workout today!

I hope you all have an amazing Tuesday!

Brian Loves Zumba

This morning, Brian, Mom and I went to Zumba. ¬†My mom goes to class every Saturday at K. Monique’s Studio and I love going with her whenever I visit, but Brian has never gone. ¬†It took a little convincing to get him to the class this morning, but after the music was turned up to the maximum volume and the entire room started dancing along with the energetic and soulful instructor he was so glad that he came!

He actually said that he wants to go to Zumba every time we visit!! It was a great way to start the day.

We then came home and showered up getting ready for the day and had delicious salads with spinach, romaine lettuce, celery, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, hummus, tuna, and cottage cheese.  The perfect refuel after a sweaty dance class.

Then, it was time for more puppy shopping.  We went to another local shelter.  Upon arrival, we searched through the Dog Profile booklet to pick which pups we wanted to meet.  There was a dog named Rhianna that Brian and I instantly fell in love with based on her profile.

Mom’s favorites were a little Shepherd/Bulldog mix named Gypsey

And a little puppy named Patty

But, not only did Brian and I love Rhianna because of her name and profile…she was the cutest little dog in person as well!! Too bad we couldn’t take her with us ūüė¶

We then came home, and napped a bit, went through some things that I have been storing in my parent’s garage and then ate some of my mom’s Thai Chicken for 2, but with scallops instead of chicken. ¬†It was delicious!

Now, we are about to watch the movie Contagion.  Looks like it should be a good one!!

Have a good night!
