Friday in a Nutshell and the Foodie Blogroll!

Posted on

I had a pretty eventful Friday…here is what went on (in a nutshell ūüėČ )

I was invited to be a member of Foodie Blogroll!!

Foodie Blogroll is a blogging community that features different blogs each week, allows members to participate in exclusive promotions with various food companies, and is a great way for food bloggers to connect with other food bloggers. I am so excited to be a part of this community, and I can’t wait to be involved in my first promotion.

Lunch Date

Yesterday, Brian showed me just how great of a fiance he was by stopping by the hotel to take me out to an unplanned lunch date!

It was very unexpected, but much needed. ¬†Panera was our restaurant of choice. ¬†Seriously, I don’t think that I could ever get sick of that place.

My lunch was one of the You Pick Two combos including the vegetable soup with pesto, and the Thai chopped chicken salad…sans the chicken. ¬†So good, I need to figure out how to make that salad at home!

After we were finished with our lunch, we ran next door to Bed Bath and Beyond to pick up a wedding gift for the wedding we are attending later today. ¬†Unfortunately, we had to order the gift to be delivered to the couple, but luckily they had a coupon code that I could text to receive on my smart phone! ¬†Gotta love savin’ some moolah ūüėČ

Running

My work day ended with a meeting downtown.  Since my workout scheduled for the day was my long run for the week, I totally took advantage of this and made sure to pack workout attire.

I stopped by one of the gyms I teach at to change, then headed out along my usual path. ¬†Sadly, I didn’t charge my Garmin last night and she died about .2 miles in…so I think I ran just about 6 miles.

I got pretty thirsty along the way and forgot to bring my mini water bottle, so I stopped at a hotel and creeped around until I found this little beauty.  It was glorious!

Dinner

After the run, I was pretty hungry and so thankful that I had leftovers from last night’s salmon patties. ¬†Even though they weren’t perfect, they were still a tasty and quick dinner. ¬†I just added a side of green beans and called it a day!

Ella’s Frozen Yogurt

The other day, Brian and I stopped by a friend’s on our way home just for a moment to say hi and see her new house. ¬†On the way we drove past this cute little frozen yogurt shop!

We didn’t stop then, but I knew we would be making a trip in the very near future. ¬†Ella’s Frozen Yogurt was decorated so cute, the toppings were displayed perfectly making Brian and me want to try each one, the staff was incredibly friendly giving us samples and recommendations, they had live music, and special discounts every day of the week! They had a live band playing outside too. Not to mention the frozen yogurt tasted delicious!

Topping Station:

More Toppings:

Even More Toppings:

Tara’s Creation: ¬†1/2 Snickerdoodle and 1/2 Cake Batter Frozen Yogurt topped with granola, peanut butter drizzle and a few cookie dough bites to snack on in the car.

Brian’s Creation: ¬†1/2 Cake Batter and 1/2 Strawberry frozen yogurt with cheesecake bites, butterfingers, strawberries, and peanut butter drizzle.

The best part about the whole thing was that it only cost $5!! Friday’s promotion is 40% off for students, and Brian and I completely took advantage of that discount. ¬†A delicious Friday night treat!

Breakfast

This morning, I woke up pretty hungry, so I immediately ran upstairs to make myself a delicious strawberry protein smoothie bowl (strawberries, almond milk, Sunwarrior protein powder, spinach, ice and water, raw oats, and a bit of peanut butter on top).

It totally hit the spot!

Now, it’s time to review some Body Pump before teaching my class later this morning. ¬†I hope you all have a great Saturday!

Question of the Morning?

  • What were your Friday night plans?
  • Anyone else eat some fro yo? (or ice cream??)
  • What is your favorite Fro Yo topping??

My absolute all time favorite fro yo topping would be….granola! ¬†I love the crunch, the sweetness, everything about it. ¬†Yum!

High on Endorphins!

Posted on

Well I must say that endorphins do have a way of making things brighter. ¬†Like I mentioned in my post earlier, I was feeling pretty down before heading to the gym. ¬†I still went an hour before my class so that I could get some cross training in before I taught strength and toning. ¬†I hit up the elliptical and turned on the Food Network. ¬†A lot of people think that the elliptical or other cardio machines can get pretty boring making it hard to build up endurance, but I have found that if a good show is on the boob tube then I am good to go! ¬†First it was Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals

Next it was Giada at Home…she made a delicious cranberry granola that I will have to try!

Honestly, as soon as my arms and legs started pumpin’ on the machine I felt waaaay better! ¬†It’s crazy how amazing that endorphin high feels, but I’m addicted to it. ¬†Here is what my workout looked like.

I adapted a workout from Une Vie Saine

I then taught Core Intensity with this workout:

Warm Up

  • Jog in place for 1 minute to get heart rate up or until the end of the first song
Abs (on step bench)
  • 15 slow controlled crunches with 8 lb weight
  • 15 crunches with legs straight up
  • 20 total bicycle crunches
  • Repeat
Back
  • 15 pullovers with one 8 lb weight in both hands while lying on bench
  • 15 pushups with hands on bench (either the girly kind or normal)
  • 10 rows with one leg on bench with two 5 lb weights then alternate legs
  • Repeat
Hips and Butt
  • Squat with one leg on bench and one leg to the side pulse low for two counts then raise knee on bench (15 each side holding weights in hands)
  • 15 reverse lunge with shoulder circle on each side (5 lb weights in each hand)
  • 15 plie squat with triceps press holding 8 lb weight
  • Repeat
Cool Down
After class I came home to let the puppies out and play with them for a bit before running to meet with a potential wedding florist.

They love each other!

They really look like brother and sister ūüôā ¬†Tomorrow, their family will be coming home and although they LOVE hanging out with me nothing beats hanging with the fam.
Brian and I then went to get fro-yo at Red Mango. ¬†I tried the mango and black cherry flavors and decided to go with mango. ¬†I then topped it with granola, coconut, and banana…not the best flavor combo I have ever come up with, but hey! ¬†Ya win some, you lose some…and it still tasted ok ūüėČ ¬†I had Brian take a picture of my treat on his iPhone and email it to me since I forgot my camera and it still hasn’t arrived in my inbox…don’t worry, I’ll post the picture tomorrow!

Food that Comforts

Posted on

This evening has been nice and relaxing, which is just what I needed after a busy work week. ¬†For dinner, I was really in the mood for some easy comfort food. ¬†I decided on pasta! ¬†I love using Al Dente Whole Wheat Flax Blend pasta, it cooks up so fast. ¬†The pasta was on a bed of steamed spinach, broccoli, carrots, artichokes, squash, and asparagus. ¬†I made my own spaghetti sauce by using a giant can of tomato puree. ¬†I sauteed 1/4 onion with a clove of garlic until translucent. ¬†I then added salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste. ¬†I stirred and simmered the sauce on low while the pasta was cooking for about 8 minutes. ¬†I topped the dish with mozzarella cheese…perfectly satisfying!

Brian and I are dog sitting for a friend’s relative this week. ¬†It has been so much fun playing house in their beautiful, old home that is so full of character. ¬†Bella, the boxer we are dog sitting, is so well behaved! ¬†She has her one green ball that she has us throw for her all day, and that makes her a happy camper. ¬†We usually walk her 2ish times a day, so after dinner we took her on her evening walk.

Hi! I'm Bella!

Watching her is really making Brian and I want a dog of our own, but I think we need to wait until after the cruise and until we have more predictable schedules.  It would be fun though!

I absolutely adore frozen yogurt, and there is a frozen yogurt place that is semi-close to our apartment called Yogulatte, it is actually a fro-yo and coffee shop…how clever!

I have been wanting to try this place out for a while, so we made tonight the night! ¬†It is a self-serve kind of fro-yo shop, which is always fun…but slightly dangerous! ¬†I can never decide on just one flavor, and I always end up taking forever deciding on the combo I am going to make. ¬†Tonight I had peanut butter, chocolate, and strawberry fro-yo topped with peanut butter, strawberries, granola, and cookie dough ( ūüėČ ). ¬†It certainly hit the spot and was a great way to end a relaxing night.
