Still Sitting Here and the Food List Challenge

Posted on

Good Evening!

Today was pretty uneventful on my front.  Sometimes that can be a good thing, but today, I wish I had a little more action.

Ever since I have come home from the cruise I have been applying for jobs, subbing as a group fitness instructor at various gyms in Indianapolis, and random odd jobs here and there.  More or less, applying for jobs has been my full-time job.  So, today, I got up, showered, got dressed and ready, and then I sat at the table at my computer virtually all day.  And I am still in the same spot.  I did take a lunch break, a workout break, and a dinner break, but I realized that on days like today I need to get out of the house and go somewhere.  Otherwise it is like there is no break and separation between “work” and “home.”

Does anyone work from home?  How do you separate your work and home and avoid working around the clock?

During my first break of the day, I had lunch.  A delicious salad with tuna and egg whites, broccoli, red onion, celery, topped with salsa mixed with cauliflower hummus.

I make salad many days out of the week whether it be for lunch or dinner, but there are some times when they just taste way better than usual…today was one of those days.

After my break for my bodypump workout, I made a quick dinner of steamed broccoli and asparagus with leftover baked tofu (from Friday).  It was great and simple!

Have any of you heard of The Food List Challenge?  I read about it this evening as I was eating my dinner. It is a list of 100 foods and you simply check the foods that you have tried and compare the results with other people.  I love experimenting with new cuisines, so I thought I would share the foods I have tried.

Preparin’ Veggies

So far, today has been productive just as I had hoped.  Some things will have to be put off until next week, but I know that they will get done so I can’t stress about not being able to get them done today.

After grocery shopping, I came home and prepared my veggies for the coming week.  I like to cut certain veggies like cauliflower up all at once so it is easy to grab for snacks and lunches.

Chopped up cauliflower

I then cut up my bananas to freeze for smoothies

These bananas were the perfect amount of greenness.  I love it when they are yellow on the bottom and a little green on top.

Now, Brian and I are going to work on a little Guy Food project for later!

Enjoy your Friday!

Last Official Rest Day

This morning, I slept in until just before 7am because I have no work, and it is my final rest day before the race.  It sure felt good not waking up in the 5am hour, even if I am a morning person 😉

Here is the yoga move for the day:

The Eagle

The benefits of Eagle are improved balance, strengthening of feet ankles, calves, and thighs, opening of the shoulders, chest, back, and hips, improving digestion and circulation, and stimulating the pituitary and thyroid glands.

I then showered, and made myself a coffee smoothie to super charge me for the day.

Today’s list includes

  • Grocery Shopping
  • Making a cake
  • Teaching Brian to make burgers for my parents
  • Laundry
  • Dishes
  • Calling the bank and asking some questions
  • Call the tailoring people about my bridesmaid dress
  • Calling the loan people about student loan questions
  • Pre-registering for the race tomorrow
  • Eating dinner and hanging out with my parents
Let’s start crossing things off!

4 Extra Hours!

Posted on

I have had a very productive first half of the day.  On top of that I just received a phone call that instead of working 1:30-6 I am needed from 5:30-10.  Now, I am no night owl, but it will be a nice change of pace to have the entire day at my fingertips!

For lunch:

I finished off the rest of that Amish farmer’s market tomato from Mom, had some cauliflower, carrot sticks, homemade hummus, and salt and cracked black pepper rice cakes.  I also had a small bowl of nuts 😉

I honestly just love nuts and nut butter and get most of my protein in that form.  My mom always said “You are what you eat!”…I guess I’m nuts.

I started my sewing project last night.  Step one:  cutting out the pattern.  I took a picture, but for some reason it didn’t download onto my computer.  I will just say that so far, things are off to a good start!

Things on my to-do list now that I have 4 extra hours in my day:

  • Research continuing education credits for my personal training certification
  • Find free yoga classes (or cheap) in Indianapolis
  • Make the grocery list
  • Find a good white layer cake recipe
  • Read about yoga
  • Look for bridesmaid shoes for Chelsea’s wedding
  • Mail giveaway goodies
Let’s start crossing things off!

Steel Cut Oats are Not Quick Cooking Oats

Posted on

Good Morning!  I love Thursdays because it is almost the weekend, and I get to teach spin 🙂 I woke up suuuuper early today, and I actually had a hard time sleeping last night so I did not feel very refreshed.  However, I was ready for breakfast when I woke up.

I had my first experience with Steel Cut Oats this morning!  And silly me didn’t realize you can’t exactly microwave them like quick cooking oats…oops.  I did really enjoy them, but I have a feeling I will enjoy them even more when prepared properly 😉

Doesn't look too appetizing...

I mixed 1/8 cup (half a serving) of steel cut oats about 1/4 of berry granola cereal (so delish!) and a Tbsp of Peanut Butter.  I tried to make breakfast as filling as possible today because I have to work until 1:30, which means I won’t get home until 2:00, which is a super late lunch for me.

Work Fashion

Today I should be learning a little bit of cash register.  Should be a fun way to start the day!

This Weekend

So, because this weekend is the family reunion, and Brian and I are leaving tomorrow…that means I have to pack today when I get home from work.  For some reason packing always stresses me out because I can never bring everything and I am so worried I will forget something.  It’s time to start making that packing list…

Jam Packed

Posted on

I tried something new today!

I usually put Splenda in my smoothies for a little extra sweetness.  Steiner, the company I will be working for on the cruise, has given me some homework to research clean foods, toxins that enter the body, and other things of that nature.  While researching, I made the decision that once I was done with my box of Splenda, I would be switching over to stevia.  I had never tried stevia before, but when I was a Good Earth Natural Foods there was a jar full of little packets for 6¢ each!  I couldn’t beat that, so I picked up two.

I put it in a blueberry spinach (or green monster) smoothie this morning, and it tasted great!  I only used one packet because I wasn’t sure how sweet it would be and it was perfect.  Looks like I will officially be saying goodbye to Splenda…as soon as that box is gone!

Jam Packed Day

Today, I am working for Emmis again fitting children with bicycle helmets.  Right after that I have a sewing lesson.  For graduation, my grandma got me a great sewing machine to use on projects.  Now, I have sewn a couple of times in my life and my freshman year in college I actually was in the costume shop almost everyday sewing costumes for the lyric theater production, but I am not an expert!  I have an idea of what I would like my first project to be, so I’ll keep you posted on the progress! I am also attending a BodyWorks class with a friend tonight, I am usually a morning worker outer (other than the classes I teach).  Then, I am going straight to watch the Bachelorette with my girls!

Now, how do we handle days like today, where it seems like we are constantly racing from one point to the next?  What I do is I make a timeline for the day.

  • Emmis 9:30am-3pm
  • Eat an early light dinner 3-4:30pm
  • Sewing Lesson 4:30-6pm
  • Go home and change 6-6:45pm
  • BodyWorks at LA Fitness 7-8pm
  • Bachelorette with the girls 8-10pm
That is very scheduled and doesn’t leave much wiggle room, so another thing I do to prepare is get my clothes ready the night before, bring everything I need with me (computer for blogging, sewing machine, workout clothes, granola bar) so that if things run over or I don’t have free time I will be able to work through it.
Now, let’s conquer our busy Mondays!

Crossing things Off

Posted on

Somedays, I am hungrier than other days.  Today was a hungry day, and I have no idea why.  So at 10:45am I made myself a salad for lunch.

This salad included broccoli, pepperoncini, kidney beans, black beans, carrots, celery, red bell pepper, cottage cheese, and salsa all on top of a bed of romaine and spinach.  It was so crisp and refreshing!  I almost forgot how much I love salads 😉

The entire afternoon has been spent crossing things off of my “list.”  This week, the children I nanny for (Sarah and Jeremy) are both at camps all day.  So, all I have to do is drop Sarah off and pick Sarah up and work on my own stuff in between.

The you can tell I like to cross things off

I have been working hard to get the “boring stuff” out of the way so that tomorrow I can focus on things like creating my wedding look binder, reading my new books, and sitting in the sun.  We will see how that works out!

Now, I’m off to pick up Sarah and teach Cycle 45!  I’ll be sharing that workout later 🙂  Enjoy your afternoon.

Productivity at its Finest

Posted on

Today is going to be my productive day.  After working with bicycle helmets all day yesterday, I came home to have a salad bar all set up for dinner and ready to eat! (Thanks Brian)  It was delicious and hit the spot after a long day on my feet.

Homemade salad bar creation

I had a mixture of spinach and romaine, tomatoes, onions, parmesan cheese, pepperoncini, and for dressing I used a pear infused vinegar…needless to say it was great!

To jumpstart my day of productivity, I slept in a tad and had a smoothie bowl for breakfast (blackberry banana).  Brian and I are headed to church and lunch with his parents, and I need to fit in a 4 mile run sometime today for my half marathon training.

First thing on the list, write the to-do list!
