Why You Should Go to the Gym Today

Posted on

Last night, I wanted something really quick for dinner.  I was tired and hungry, and those two things are NEVER a good combination.

Luckily, I had some veggie burgers in the fridge that only took about 8 minutes to cook.  These burgers were a new brand to me, Franklin Farms, and I truly loved them!

The ingredient list wasn’t too lengthy and the first ingredient on the list was “vegetables!”  Each burger has 100 calories, 12 grams of protein, and tasty flavor.  These little burgers are going to be hopping into my grocery cart more often!

This Morning

This morning, I woke up on the tired side of the bed.  I’ll admit it and say that I simply wanted to curl up back into my blankets and close my eyes rather than heading to the gym…but I didn’t.  Of course there are days when a little mid week break is needed, but there are also times when you need to simply push yourself just a bit and say “come on, think about how you will feel after you go to the gym…”

A little self-motivation never hurt anyone 😉

If you are lacking that little motivation to head to the gym this Friday, here are some self-motivating tips that I use when the bed sheets are calling my name:

  • I like to think about how I will feel after the workout.  That energy boost and that feeling of strength and accomplishment is priceless!
  • Put it into your schedule so that if you are a “list” person (which I completely am!) then you can physically cross that thing off the list.
  • If I am not feeling like creating my own workout or really thinking about it, then I will go to a group fitness class so that someone else can plan my workout for me.
  • The end goal is always important for me.  Am I working to build muscle?  Am I training for a race?  I like to keep whatever that end goal is in my head and think about how completing the workout will allow me to go one step closer to that goal.
  • To get that endorphin high!  Enough said 🙂
  • Remember how this exercise, whatever form, is benefitting your health in the long term.

How do you motivate yourself to get to the gym in the morning?

Koru: Representation of Strength

Posted on

First things first…breakfast!

I started out my morning with a batch of protein pancakes topped with homemade almond butter, strawberries, and a side of Greek yogurt.  So good! Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day.

I needed to start out the day with good fuel in my tummy, because today is a very exciting day for me.

The gym that I teach Body Pump at launches the new release of Body Pump today…and I am teaching two of the tracks!

If you are new to the blog, I recently completed the initial training module for Body Pump, and I am loving every step of this new fitness journey.  I worked hard to create a great video tape of a class that I taught, sent it in and I am anxiously awaiting the video assessment results.  In the mean time,  I have been subbing classes and I also started teaching my very own class once a week.

Secret Package

On Thursday, I got a notice in the mail that I had a package waiting for me at the post office.  I had just ordered a Les Mills Body Pump workout tank top, so I thought that is what my package was.  Because I head into work before the post office opens, I had Brian pick up the mystery package.

Once he picked up the package, he called me sounding pretty confused.  I thought for sure that the package was my new workout top, but Brian explained that the package was very small…too small for a tank top, and from Indonesia.  What could it be???

When he opened it up and explained to me that it was a bone carved necklace, I knew exactly what it was!

When I started attending Body Pump and other Les Mills classes, I noticed similar necklaces on the instructors’ necks.  When I was in training, the trainers and some of the participants had necklaces on too.  I didn’t know what the necklaces were, but I suspected  that they were a symbol Les Mills used to represent strength.

My mom, being the sneak that she is, secretly asked her Body Pump instructor about the necklace that she wore and where she could purchase one for me to help me in my new fitness journey.

The necklace is a New Zealand koru, symbolizing growth, new life, strength, and peace.  Because Les Mills originated in New Zealand, several Les Mills instructors wear these necklaces to provide them with personal, mental, and physical strength while teaching.

I received my necklace just in time to teach my first official class and right before the new launch.  It is the perfect symbol of strength and personal growth, and I can’t wait to wear it at each class and see where my new Les Mills and Body Pump fitness road takes me.

Wish me luck at the launch tonight!

Do you have anything that you wear or keep with you to help symbolize strength???

Bridal Show Weekend and 100 Reasons

Posted on

Good Monday morning!  I hope that your weekend was fantastic and you are jazzed up and ready to start the week!

This morning, I started my day with the last of my mini baked oatmeal bites.  They were delicious and quick, which is just what I needed since I had an early morning meeting and woke up a tad bit later than planned.  But all is good, because I like to wake up super duper early anyways, so I wasn’t running late at all.

Bridal Show

Yesterday was a blast at the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show that my mom and I went to.  I feel like they are a great way to get unique ideas, even if you don’t use one of the vendors there.

On this table setting, instead of using a table runner, they used a sash…that only cost $1!! Using a table runner would cost about $5 per table.  That is great money-saving decorating tip.  It may or may not be used in my wedding 😉

These were cute little cupcakes all wrapped up to be used as party favors…another brilliant idea.  And so simple!  I tend to over-complicate everything, so I really appreciate when someone takes a simple idea, executes it well, and makes that idea special in some way.  I wish I could be more simply creative on my own.

All in all the event was a great way to spend the afternoon bonding with my mom.  I have to admit, I think that my favorite booths were the cake samples 🙂  and the health/nutrition booths to help brides get into shape….seems a bit contradictory…oh well!

Me and Mom

After spending the afternoon with Mom, Brian and I headed to his parent’s house for our Sunday night family dinner.  As always, his dad made a delicious meal.  Last night, it was Mahi Mahi fish, salad, wild rice, and baby broccoli.

My sister also came over for dinner, and to cut Brian’s hair.  It was starting to get a little shaggy.

She got mad at him for waiting so long to get it cut…just kidding!

Workout

Tonight, I am substitute teaching a pilates class, and the new release of BodyPump comes out right after that so I plan to stick around and make that part of my workout today.  I have said this time and time again, but I absolutely love working out in the morning, getting it out of the way, and not having to think about it the rest of the day.  Honestly, it helps to wake me up and really jump start my morning too.

I know Monday mornings can be a bit hard to wake up to, and sometimes it is a little bit hard to be motivated to get to the gym…at least I know I have been there.  Over the weekend Spark People posted a list of 100 Reasons You Should Workout Today, and I thought that this list was a great motivational tool to look at for those days when the gym just doesn’t seem like an option.

Whenever I am feeling like I would rather be on the computer or relax rather than workout, I always ask myself…”will I regret working out? ”  The answer is no….I then weigh the options…”will I regret not working out?”  The answer is yes.  I know that works for me, but look on the list and find at least 1 out of the 100 reasons to workout that applies to you!
